No Country For Old Men

So now there is a new plan which my boyfriend and I have come up with. To watch all of the IMDB top 250 movies. So here goes with the first one we have watched together, No Country For Old Men.

Top 250 Position; 171 (correct at 23/02/14)
Rating; 8.2/10 from 428,208 users
Who's in it;
Tommy Lee Jones
Javier Bardem
Josh Brolin
Woody Harrelson
Kelly Macdonald

Directed by; Ethan Coen & Joel Coen Release
Year; 2007
Duration; 122 Minutes
Accolades; Won Four Oscars(Nominated for Eight) Won Two Golden Globes (Nominated for Four) Won Three Baftas (Nominated for Nine)

Plot; A man (Josh Brolin) stumbles across a drug deal gone wrong and $2 Million. He is subsequently being tracked down by a ruthless killer (Javier Bardem)for the money. All of this is taking place while a soon to be retired sheriff (Tommy Lee Jones) is overseeing the investigation into the increasing body count that is materialising due to this string of events.

Interesting facts about the film;
- The only film of the 2000s to gross under $2 million in its opening weekend, and later win an Academy Award for Best Picture.
- This is the second film in history to share the Best Director Oscar between two directors - the first was between Jerome Robbins and Robert Wise for West Side Story (1961). (Source IMDB.com)

Review; This is a spectacular looking film with views over desserts, Texan and New Mexico landscapes. The story line in principle seems quite straight forward but I was really grateful for the person with me giving some explanations as to what was going on. Such as Bardem's weapon of choice, things I missed in a brief moment of loosing concentration..... There is very little explanation (from what I was able to glean)of what is going on, mainly this is because of there not being much dialogue used to explain what is going on. There is some violence though not much in comparison to some movies out there, but just a heads up for anyone who might be a bit squeamish. Seeing as this movie is 2 hours long I thought that it would drag (especially considering that it can be a little confusing), but it didn't. The 2 hours seemed to speed along. In all I am glad to say that I have watched this film and consider it is worthy of it's place in the top 250 films.
I have only seen Javier Bardem in a few movies and let me tell you he plays the menacing villain to perfection, I can understand his winning an Oscar for his role.
This is officially the only Coen brothers film I have seen, and trust me I think I will be watching more if this one is anything to go by.
